In Katmandu, Nepal, a plane carrying tourists to view the highest peak mountain, Mount Everest, crashed while on the attempt to land on Sunday. Nineteen (19) people on board were killed according to the officials.

Ten Indian nationals, two U.S. citizens and a Japenese are among the victims. Furthermore, the plane was also carrying three Nepalese passengers and three crew members when it crashed in a village just a few miles south of Katmandu.

Eighteen bodies were pulled out from the plane's wreckage and another victim died after being rushed to the hospital. An eyewitness said that the plane hit the roof of a house in the village. In addition to that, it was foggy and the visibility was very low.

The plane, Hawker Beechcraft, had taken passengers to view the Mount Everest and other high peaks and was returning to Katmandu. It is a one-hour flight that takes tourists over the Everest and can view the mountain from the airplane windows.

The Anti-Planking Act of 2011

I heard this new bill that was filed by the Quezon Representative Winnie Castelo seeks to ban "planking" or an act of lying down with hands on the side and legs together after student protesters disrupted the traffic last Monday during the Transport Strike.

According to Castelo:

Parents and teachers have reason to be alarmed if these similar protest actions will have as a scheme and scene otherwise warm and living bodies laid down across street highways as though they were offerings to the gods.
The parent in me tells me that this precedent in the case of the this massive transport strike where militant street protesters who are students of various schools have to lie down or serve as ‘planks’ across the road to disrupt what should be normal traffic could just be very dangerous in the future. Life and limb are pretty much at risks here were unbelieving bus drivers or law enforcement authorities might just ram through these warm and living bodies rolled out on highways

As what Castelo said, it is a true that parents and teachers need to be alarmed with this. However, does submitting the bill is making good for our country?

We are on a democratic country so every people has the right to express things in a way that they can get the attention of the people such as protesters who want to get the attention of the government. At least those protesters didn't do anything harm to other people but only disrupting the traffic. It's their way to express their thoughts which we ignore sometimes.

Submitting this Anti-planking Act of 2011 Bill is just an act of negligence. Instead of submitting this bill, better focus on sensible things that needs to be fix such as those chaotic place in Quezon where there are people who walked along the road because of plenty of vendors occupying the sidewalk. Or, do some fruitful act to the people who needs help and etcetera. This bill is only provoking the people.

Anyway, this bill can't solve any problems of our country. For me, it only makes a big fuzz to get an attention too.

Miss Angola, Leila Lopes Crowned Miss Universe 2011; Shamcey Supsup is 3rd Runner Up

Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, was crowned Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, as she stood out 88 other candidates.

Ximena Navarrete, last year's winner, handed her crown to Angola, 25 year-old Lopes, who was also crowned as Miss Angola UK 2010, Miss Fotogenia 2011 and Miss Angola 2011.

Lea Salonga asked Lopes the final question that helped her win the pageant.

She asked: "If you could change one of your personal characteristics, which one would it be and why?"

Lopes replied

Thank God, I’m very well satisfied with the way God created me and I would not change a thing. I consider myself a woman with inner beauty. I have my principles. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I plan to follow this through the rest of my life

Meanwhile, our very own, Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup, was third-runner up in the pageant that was aired live.

She was asked by one of the judges, "Would you change your religious belief to marry the person that you love?"

Shamcey Supsup was the only top 5 candidate without a translator.

I would not marry the person because the first person I love is my God and the person loves me, he should also love my God.

Shamcey Supsup ranked as 1st by the fans among the top 5 and 2nd on swimsuit and evening gown competitions.

Even though she didn't win the title, I am so proud that she compete with confidence on that pageant. Even she won as third-runner up, still she won the pageant with full support and brought the country to the top 5 of this competition. Congratulations, Shamcey Supsup.

Prayers for the 9/11

I know that everyone is busy and also not into date. But today, I remembered that thousands of people died because of the terrorists attack ten years ago in US. People left and people mourned on that day with just one selfish act that killed thousands of people in a plane crash.

The world's leaders and citizens paused to reflect this very day. We can no longer turn back the time so all we can do is to offer our prayers for those people who died on that attack.

Holiday in Cebu

Ever since I was a child, September 09 is always a holiday for Cebu. It's OsmeƱa Day today so no classes for all schools in Cebu. However, I do have an exam this afternoon at 1pm as one of the department in Medicine requested for this day. There's no time for delays as they said and we only have one month left for the subject matter. The subject is a semestral subject so they need to cope with the number of days and number of exams to be given to the students before the semester ends.

Anyway, for those who have no classes or exams, enjoy your Friday and party party!
